ED'S FAVOURITES - 4

Four more short movies that pull everything together into perfection.
It takes a long time, talent and dedication to make shorts this good.

The Duel At Blood Creek by Leo Burton (2010) (UK) (14m)

The fabulous comedy, The Duel At Blood Creek, was a winner in the 4th FILMSshort Competition. Blood Creek is the name of a popular site where men settle matters of honour with an old-fashioned duel. Unfortunately, it is proving rather too popular today as several would-be duellers arrive at the same time. The bickering and posturing builds up until the fighting begins. But who will survive in such a bloodthirsty age as this?

The Last 3 Minutes

The Last 3 Minutes by Po Chan (2010) (US) (5m) *

Written and directed by American cinematographer Po Chan, The Last 3 Minutes is an unashamedly tear-jerking flashback through a dying man's life. Every shot is lovingly crafted and there are some beautiful American landscapes - as one might expect from an American DoP! Shot in 2010, Chan also shows the possibilities of the new class of video-capable DSLR cameras (in this case a Canon 5D). It may not be to everyone's tastes but her film is truly filmic...

18 Certificate Logo A Message From Fallujah by R. Gibson (2005) (Australia) (15m)

A Message From Fallujah, co-written by Shane Briant and its director, Richard Gibson, won several awards on the short film festival circuit, playing particularly well in North America. Set in war-torn Iraq, A Message From Fallujah centres on Daniel Crane, an American civilian engineer who is kidnapped by an extremist group of militia. In an impossible situation, he manages to escape his captives but finds himself in a nightmarish realm outside his prison.

Second Thoughts by David Shane (2015) (UK) (6m)

Second Thoughts is a great comedy written by Matt Heath, Eric Stevens and Joshua Dimarcantonio, and directed by David Shane. High Priest Nebula, the leader of a religious cult, is about to lead his acolytes in a mass suicide so that they can leave their mortal vessels and transcend to the planet Quathcore. However, with the elixir in his chalice and the moment upon him, he is unsure whether he has faith enough to proceed. The only problem is that it was he who prophesised that he would go first.
