THE GOD - KONSTANTIN BRONZIT (2004) *

Russian animator Konstantin Bronzit was nominated for an Academy Award in 2009 with his simple, hand-drawn short short, Lavatory Lovestory. But in 2004 he created the truly brilliant computer animation, The God. In The God, we find a bronze statue of the Hindu deity, Shiva, the personifaction of "calm", being irritated by a pesky fly. The god comes to life in order to rid himself of the pest. But in his increasingly frustated attempts, he causes himself more and more problems. Some Hindus argue this is offensive to their religion and suggest Christians or Muslims would be angered if it were Jesus or Allah. Perhaps. But I laugh out loud at the depiction of Jesus in Family Guy. If any of these Gods exist, I reckon they would have a sense of humour.
