A Reasonable Request by Andrew Laurich (2016) (USA) (9m)

Written by Gabriel Miller and directed by Andrew Laurich, A Reasonable Request is an American comedy that performed well on the short film festival circuit. A young man has asked to meet with his father in a diner. He is in need of money and his father can help him earn a lot in one night. As long as the older man is willing to take part in a sex act. With him. It is surely a reasonable request?

Validation

Validation by Kurt Kuenne (2007) (USA) (16m)

Validation is a fabulous romantic comedy that could rightly be placed in the romance or comedy sections. Written and directed by Kurt Kuenne, it is a modern-day fable about a guy who is validating parking tickets but also validating the customers by giving them compliments. He likes to see people smile but the one girl he wants to make smile more than anything appears to be a lost cause. A slightly mawkish ending is outweighed by its general awesomeness.

Social Security by Peter Smith (2011) (UK) (2m)

Sociel Security by Peter Smith was a finalist in the very first FILMSshort competition in 2011 and won the award for best animation at the reed.co.uk short film competition that year. It is a simple idea well executed, with a low-key, dry and rather British sense of humour. It is narrated by the newcomer to an office job while a series of images depict his words with amusing and ever-increasing complexity.

Bob's Birthday

15 CertificateBob's Birthday by Snowden & Fine (1994) (Canada/UK) (11m)

Bob's Birthday won the short animation Oscar in 1995. By David Fine and Alison Snowden, it is an amusing look at modern life (it is as relevant today as it was then) and how the best laid plans can go horribly wrong. It is dentist Bob's 40th birthday and his wife has organised a surprise party. Unfortunately, Bob returns home in a depressed mood and takes off his underwear while his party-guests are still hiding and waiting. Will they get the chance come out?
