A LOVE STORY - ANUSHKA NAANAYAKKARA (2016) *

Written by Anushka Naanayakkara and Elena Ruscombe-King, and directed by the former, A Love Story won the Best Short Animation BAFTA in 2017. For some reason, only three animations were nominated that year, meaning all three directors must have dared to dream. Created in woven wools, A Love Story is a fairly experimental film in which two floating heads come together before one is taken over by a blackness (I am still unsure if this symbolises mental or physical illness) that the other finds impossible to negate. It reminds me of BAFTA winning The Bead Game from 1978 (yes, I'm that well-versed with BAFTA winners) but I have to admit I prefer the older film. Naanayakkara made A Love Story while a student at the UK's NFTS, continuing a long tradition of BAFTA winners from the school. If you like the BAFTA-winning A Love Story by Anushka Naanayakkara be sure to rate it and share it.
