BLACK RIDER - PEPE DANQUART (1993)

Black Rider (Schwarzfahrer) won the Oscar for Best Short Film in 1994. Black Rider is a short drama with a large dose of black comedy written and directed by German filmmaker Pepe Danquart, proving that some Germans do indeed have a sense of humour. Filmed in black & white, there is a definite European feel to it but this fact did not stop it winning the Academy Award. Indeed, films shot in black & white tended to do well at the Oscars. It tells the story of a black man sitting next to a racist white woman on a tram and is a simple story of bigotry and comical revenge.
