RICE PAPER - RAPHAEL ERBA (2021)

Proving again that I do watch films sent in to me (though I do not always have the time or words to respond), here is an elegant animation, Rice Paper (Papier de Riz), from French animator Raphaël Erba. As if formed of rice paper itself, this animation tells the story of an ancient Chinese painter who apparently captures the uncapturable with amazing ease. Having heard of his skill, the Emperor challenges him to create the most beautiful swan ever painted and is surprised to hear the painter ask for ten years to accomplish the feat.
