VARIATIONS ON A THEME - PETER COLLINS CAMPBELL (2023)

Written and directed by US filmmaker Peter Collins Campbell, Variations On A Theme is a twist on previous films that explore cloning, like the wonderful feature Moon (2009) and the classic short Copy Shop (2001). In this instance, it is a young couple who is splitting to produce clones of themselves, which allows this nicely-made grounded sci-fi to (briefly) explore a relationship rather than the usual sense of exceptionalism (from which most humans suffer - including this one). It's also reminscent of the super low budget but excellent feature film Coherence (2014) and is very much on trend with its lowkey vibe. The idea perhaps needs more time and story to explore its richness (even if this was a proof-of-concept short for a feature). If you like the sci-fi short film Variations On A Theme by Peter Collins Campbell be sure to like and share it!
