The brilliant sci-fi short film Mis-drop by Ferend Peek was a finalist in the 7th FILMSshort competition. Set some 300 years in the future, it is mainly told with one shot, which shows a new recruit taking part in his first "drop". His team are dropping from a spaceship onto an alien world they are colonising and mining. It is being watched back by a forensic accountant, who has to decide whether what went wrong was the fault of the rookie or not.
The overall winner of the amazingly high quality 7th FILMSshort comptition, the comic animation Dji. Death Fails is as good as Pixar. It was created by the Moldovan studio Simpals. Dji is an unusual manifestation of Death, who does not seem terribly good at his job and suffers from bad luck. All he has to do is to take the soul of a dying trucker, but that seems to be easier said than done!
Rukhsati (Farewell) by Khurum Khan was selected as the People's Choice by members of the Facebook community for the 7th FILMSshort competition. 'Rukhsati' is the word used when a Pakastani bride leaves her family to join her groom's family. Here we have a woman ready to marry but not wanting to leave her elderly father alone. Their conversation seems to take place across time and space.
False Start (Faux Depart) by Shekhar Bassi was a finalist in the 7th FILMSshort competition. It is darkly comic drama about two men, Fahim and Haashid, two illegal immigrants who are hoping to cross the English Channel to get from France to England. However, their plans are thrown into disarray by Haashid's personal agenda. It is filmed all in one shot to make it feel more real, making their plight heartbreaking and funny.
